Thousands of new students were welcomed to the College the week of Aug. 27 with a series of new student orientation events at the Main Campus and three Regional Centers. At each orientation session, students were given tips on how to navigate the College, along with the resources to start and continue on a path to success.
On August 27, volunteers from the College were at Spring Garden School, an K-8 school in the College’s neighborhood, to cheer on students for their first day of school. Community College of Philadelphia adopted Spring Garden School this year as part of the School District of Philadelphia's Adopt-a-School program. Members of the College’s International Student Association and the Institute for Community Engagement and Civic Leadership operated a table outside of the school starting at 7:30 a.m., handing out coffee, doughnuts — and information about the College's programs.
To help kickoff the College’s adoption of Spring Garden School, students, faculty and staff worked side by side on August 14 and 15 to fill close to 200 backpacks with school supplies, and to create cards with messages of encouragement. The backpacks are being distributed to Spring Garden School students who need them on the first day of school, Aug. 27, where volunteers from the College will be there to greet them. The unused backpacks will be donated to students in Western Region Nigeria and to local students as needed.
Staff came together again on August 6 to network and brainstorm how to move the College's student experience from good to great.

The annual Diagnostic Medical Imaging Pinning Ceremony was held on June 28, 2018, in the Bonnell Building Large Auditorium. Congratulations to all of our graduates, and best of luck in in your future endeavors.

The Black and Gold Gala is a premier charity event recognizing outstanding service of individuals and organizations that demonstrate involvement in community growth in the areas of education, business, social services and health. On Friday, May 4, members of the College community boarded the Spirit of Philadelphia to celebrate our 2018 graduates and celebrate the closing of another year of student success. Decked out in all-white attire, guests enjoyed dinner, dancing and music.
The College and Philadelphia community gathered on May 14 for the Pathways Magazine breakfast and Partnerships with a Purpose panel discussion. The Rev.
