Community College of Philadelphia has a program-to-program transfer agreement with Thomas Jefferson University's Jefferson College of Pharmacy. This Agreement establishes the Early Assurance to Pharm.D. Program providing highly-focused, high-achieving Community College of Philadelphia students special mentoring and support in their pursuit of professional studies.

Students who follow the Early Assurance to Pharm.D. Program requirements will be assured a priority review for admission to the Jefferson College of Pharmacy at Thomas Jefferson University leading to the Doctorate in Pharmacy (Pharm.D.).

Admissions Eligibility

To qualify for Community College of Philadelphia’s Early Assurance to Pharm.D. Program, Community College of Philadelphia students must:

• Submit an application for admission to the Early Assurance to Pharm.D. Program Coordinator no later than the end of the second year of full-time enrollment. This program is associated with Community College of Philadelphia’s Associate in Science (A.S.) in Biology. 
• Be accepted into the Program as determined by the Program Coordinator. Admission into the Program is competitive and based on the admission requirements of the program. 
• Early Assurance to Pharm.D. Program students will complete the course work required for the A.S. in Biology degree program as well as the course work required in the Proficiency Certificate in Biology program.

Students admitted and enrolled in the Early Assurance to Pharm.D. Program must meet the following requirements while at Community College of Philadelphia:

• Earn a cumulative overall GPA of 2.7 or better as well as a cumulative science GPA of 2.7 or better (on a 4.0 scale). All prerequisite courses for the Pharm.D. program must be completed with at least a grade of “C” or better no later than August 1st of the year students matriculate into the Pharm.D. program.
• Provide official transcripts to the Community College of Philadelphia Early Assurance to Pharm.D. Program if a student takes any courses at another institution. The Early Assurance to Pharm.D. Program Coordinator must evaluate all official transcripts to ensure that all Jefferson College of Pharmacy required courses are successfully completed.
• Meet all Community College of Philadelphia general education and Biology major course requirements.
• Maintain a record of academic honesty and free of judicial violations while at Community College of Philadelphia.
• Actively participate in Community College of Philadelphia/Jefferson College of Pharmacy joint co-curricular activities to enable students to appreciate the expectations for Pharm.D. students. Students are also encouraged to obtain experience to gain exposure to pharmacy practice prior to matriculation at Jefferson College of Pharmacy.

Preparing for Admissions to Jefferson College of Pharmacy:

To assist Early Assurance to Pharm.D. Program students with their application and to qualify for priority review of admission to the Jefferson College of Pharmacy at Thomas Jefferson University, Early Assurance to Pharm.D. Program students must:

• Complete and submit the following to the Community College of Philadelphia program coordinator for review by no later than September 15th of the year preceding matriculation at Jefferson College of Pharmacy. The College Community of Philadelphia program coordinator will review the following and give students feedback to strengthen their application.
  • 1. A letter stating their continued intention to utilize the Articulation Agreement to attend Jefferson College of Pharmacy.
    2. Names and contact information for at least two but no more than four references that meet Jefferson College of Pharmacy stated requirements as noted on the Jefferson College of Pharmacy FAQ’s page.
    3. A copy of the personal statement intended to be submitted for admissions to Jefferson College of Pharmacy.
• Gain a positive letter of support from the Community College of Philadelphia Early Assurance to Pharm.D. Program Coordinator.
• Meet all Jefferson College of Pharmacy program requirements as noted below.
• Students must submit official transcripts from Community College of Philadelphia and other accredited institutions for verification through the PharmCAS application system.
  
  

Admission Decisions for Acceptance into Pharm.D.

The final determination of eligibility for admission to Jefferson College of Pharmacy’s Doctor of Pharmacy program will be the decision of Jefferson College of Pharmacy per Accreditation Counsel for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) requirements and will be based on the qualifications listed above and within this section.

• For students in the Early Assurance to Pharm.D. Program the optimal timing of the admission decision would occur by October 15th of the year preceding their planned matriculation at Jefferson College of Pharmacy.
• Candidates to transfer to the Jefferson College of Pharmacy Pharm.D. program must complete the Jefferson College of Pharmacy admission process by applying through PharmCAS (www.PharmCAS.org).
• Candidates will be strongly encouraged to complete the PharmCAS application by October 15th of the year preceding their planned matriculation at Jefferson College of Pharmacy.

Jefferson College of Pharmacy will provide placement (admissions) for students who complete all admission requirements by October 15th the year prior to their transfer to Jefferson College of Pharmacy.

For an application to be considered complete by Jefferson College of Pharmacy it must include:

1. A completed PharmCAS application
2. With transcripts verified by PharmCAS and
3. Two letters of recommendation which meet the Jefferson College of Pharmacy requirements submitted through PharmCAS.

Final admissions decisions by Jefferson College of Pharmacy are based on:

• A reasonable plan for completion of all required Jefferson College of Pharmacy prerequisite courses with at least a C in each course prior to August 1st of the year of matriculation at Jefferson College of Pharmacy.
• A GPA of 2.7 or better on both the cumulative GPA and science GPA.
• Successful completion of an interview at Jefferson College of Pharmacy following receipt of completed PharmCAS application.
• Meeting all technical standards as stated on Jefferson College of Pharmacy’s webpage.
• Matriculation at Jefferson College of Pharmacy is contingent upon successful completion of all Jefferson College of Pharmacy required prerequisites with a grade of C or better and cumulative and science GPAs of 2.7 or better at the time of matriculation.
