2022 Summer Equity Institute

The 2022 Summer Equity Institute drew close to 150 members of the College community, as stakeholders at the College ranging from staff, administrators, and faculty came together to address the important question, “What does equity, diversity, and inclusion mean at CCP?” Plenary sessions on the three days comprised of invited guest speakers Dr. Shaunna Payne Gold, Gold Enterprises, LLC, Dr. Jillian Kinzie, Interim Co-Director, NSSE, and Mr. Jonathan Iuzzini, Director of Teaching and Learning, Achieving the Dream. These plenary sessions were followed by concurrent sessions presented by CCP faculty and administrators. Each day, participants were given opportunities to share ideas, best practices, and challenges to address the equity gaps in our students’ learning and the consequences of not addressing the equity gaps. In the afternoon sessions, administrators, staff, and faculty came together and discussed ways to mitigate equity gaps, promoting student success, and strengthen a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion at CCP. Discussions ranged from using disaggregated data to inform us about modifying “legacy practices” at the institution, to how support services professionals can ensure all students are being served, to adopting teaching practices that would lead to culturally responsive teaching, and more. We are excited to announce that all employees will have the opportunity to engage in sustained work in this area by way of a tiered compensation framework which will be introduced during fall Professional Development Week. Until then, we invite you to watch the recordings of the sessions and to continue to have conversations with colleagues and to reflect on your role in this critical aspect of CCP’s mission. Making an Impression: High-Impact Practices in the Classroom

Let's Get Trauma-Informed

Flier for Trauma Informed mini conference

Gen 1: Leading the Pride

On Monday, Nov. 8, 2021, CCP joined in the national First-Generation College Celebration by launching a new program to support and empower first-gen students called Gen 1: Leading the Pride. The day consisted to two virtual sessions. In the first, faculty heard from campus experts how to better support first-generation students both in and outside of the classroom. Strategies included how to cultivate a sense of belonging and connectedness among Gen 1 students to combat the isolation they may feel, the use of collective components to achieve desired outcomes, and how to employ various empathy-based strategies, such as engaging in appropriate self-disclosure to build trust and safety with students. The second session was an interactive forum on what it is like being a first-gen student. Panelists including faculty, staff, a current student, and an alum, shared their experiences and insight into what motivated them to be the first in their households to tread the path of higher education and what resources helped them on their journey.
