Eastern University Early Childhood Education Program Agreement

Community College of Philadelphia and Eastern University have entered into a Program-to-Program Transfer Agreement to facilitate the transfer of students who earn an Associate in Arts in Education: Early Childhood (Birth to 4th Grade). They will be assured third-year status into Eastern University Bachelor of Science Degree (B.S.) in Early Childhood Education OR Early Childhood Studies as long as they meet Eastern University’s entry requirements.

Students who enroll full-time will be able to complete the B.S. in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Studies degrees within four full-time fall/spring semesters provided they complete the appropriate sequence of their remaining course work at Eastern University.

Terms and Conditions

Accelerated Education Studies (ACES)

The following terms and conditions apply for Community College of Philadelphia graduates entering the Accelerated Education Studies (ACES):

  • Graduate from Community College of Philadelphia with the A.A. in Education: Early Childhood (Birth to 4th Grade) as described in the transfer guide for this Agreement.
  • Earn a final cumulative Community College of Philadelphia grade point average of at least a 2.5 for entrance into the Early Childhood Studies Program.
  • Meet the requirements of the Child Protective Services Law, 23 Pa. C.S.A., section 6344 (relating to prospective childcare personnel).
  • Meet deadlines for admissions application, payment of fees and other enrollment requirements that apply to other entering students at Eastern University.
  • Enroll directly to Eastern University within two years of completing an associate degree program of study from Community College of Philadelphia and not attend another institution between graduation and attendance at Eastern University.

The Education Studies Major does not require taking/passing the Basic Skills tests and leads to a B.S. degree only. Education Studies students have the option to take student teaching in Eastern University’s post baccalaureate program after graduation, provided they have passed the Basic Skills test and have a GPA of 3.0 or better. With courses, student teaching and exams completed, students would be eligible to complete certification in Pre K to 4th grade.

Accelerated Early Childhood Education (ACED)

The following terms and conditions apply for Community College of Philadelphia graduates entering the Accelerated Early Childhood Education (ACED):

  • Graduate from Community College of Philadelphia with the A.A. in Education: Early Childhood (Birth to 4th Grade) as described in the transfer guide for this Agreement.
  • Earn a final cumulative Community College of Philadelphia grade point average of at least a 3.0 for students seeking acceptance to the Early Childhood Education (also referred to as the teacher preparation program).
  • Obtain qualifying scores on PAPA or equivalent paths at the time of application as outlined in the transfer guide for the Early Childhood Education program.
  • Meet the requirements of the Child Protective Services Law, 23 Pa. C.S.A., section 6344 (relating to prospective childcare personnel).
  • Meet deadlines for admissions application, payment of fees and other enrollment requirements that apply to other entering students at Eastern University.
  • Enroll directly to Eastern University within two years of completing an associate degree program of study from Community College of Philadelphia and not attend another institution between graduation and attendance at Eastern University.

To be admitted to Eastern University’s Early Childhood Education degree program, students need passing scores as established by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) on the Pre-Professional Skills tests. (Reading, Writing, Listening, Mathematics). In accordance with PDE requirements, the GPA requirements for students seeking acceptance to the Early Childhood Education (also referred to as the teacher preparation program) in the College of Education is 3.0.

Students pursuing the benefits of this Program-to-Program Agreement are also eligible for dual admissions.

NOTE:

  • Eastern University requires matriculated students to complete half of their major courses at Eastern University. Eastern University will accept a maximum of 89 credits in transfer.
  • Eastern University will need official transcripts for evaluation of credit from all institutions attended including military transcripts. Credit will also be awarded for AP, CLEP, etc. with appropriate documentation. Developmental courses are not eligible for transfer.
  • The grade of “S” for satisfactory will be awarded by Community College of Philadelphia to students in the Education: Early Childhood (Birth to 4th Grade) associate degree program with “credit for experience.” Students with an “S” have satisfactorily met the assigned course-based competencies with a "C" or better. These credits will transfer in as a part of this Program-to-Program Agreement.
  • Students who have pursued a Community College of Philadelphia associate degree study other than the A.A. in Education: Early Childhood (Birth to 4th Grade) or who do not earn the associate degree prior to transfer to Eastern University are not covered by this Agreement. Such students will be considered for admissions on an individual basis and their credits will be evaluated on a course-by-course basis.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

To encourage Community College of Philadelphia graduates to transfer to Eastern University, Eastern University agrees to the following:

Application Fee Waiver

To waive the application fee for students who apply to Eastern University.

Academic Scholarships

This Early Childhood Education Program Agreement is funded through a grant from the William Penn Foundation in support of the early childhood education workforce in the Philadelphia region to build strong aligning career pathways. Students working in the early childhood education field and who choose to transfer from Community College of Philadelphia to Eastern University under this Agreement may apply for the Pennsylvania Child Care Association’s T.E.A.C.H. (Teacher Education And Compensation Helps) Early Childhood® PENNSYLVANIA Scholarship Program. For more information go to www.pacca.org or contact, Dr. Amy Saia, Program Coordinator of the Community College of Philadelphia Education program at asaia@ccp.edu.

  • Eastern University will offer a 20% discount to students matriculating from Community College of Philadelphia into Eastern University’s ACED or ACES programs if they do not receive the T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® PENNSYLVANIA Scholarship whether the students are Dual Admissions or not.
  • Dual Admissions students who do not receive the T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® PENNSYLVANIA Scholarship are eligible for the dual admissions tuition grant as noted in the Dual Admissions Agreement.

These scholarship/tuition grants are not stackable, meaning that Eastern University cannot provide both a Dual Admissions grant plus additional financial benefits associated with this Agreement. However, if students qualify for both the Dual Admissions Tuition Grant and benefits associated with this Agreement, Eastern University will award the greater of the two. Scholarships may be renewed each year contingent upon the students submitting their FAFSA and remaining in good academic standing at Eastern University.

Financial Aid

Eastern University will provide financial aid information and receive full consideration for Eastern University financial aid upon matriculation at Eastern University. Financial Aid will be awarded to transfer students on the same basis as traditional Eastern University students. They will have equal access to all state and federal financial aid programs.

Approved Degree Program and Transfer Guides

Associate in Arts in Education: Early Childhood (Birth to 4th Grade) is approved for the Bachelor of Science Degree (B.S.) in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Studies at Eastern University.

Transfer guides are created and maintained to help students and staff make appropriate course and program choices. The guides show how the requirements for the appropriate Community College of Philadelphia associate degree transfer to the bachelor's institution. It is, however, possible for program requirements at Community College of Philadelphia or the transfer institution to change without advanced notice.

Students are advised to visit with a Community College of Philadelphia education faculty, academic advisor or counselor for further assistance.
