Students, faculty and staff joined together on Main Campus for the annual Thanksgiving celebration on Monday, Nov. 25—a time for the entire College community to remember not the things that matter, but the people who matter—all of us as a family. As the community gathered to celebrate, attendees brought non-perishable food, beverage and toiletry items for the College's Snack Rack Food Pantry and the families of Spring Garden School. Dr.
Our College's and nation's veterans were honored at a ceremony held in the Bonnell Lobby on Veterans Day. The program featured a color guard entrance, welcome remarks from Dr. Generals and remarks from members of the College community who are veterans.
Roary and friends ventured out on Halloween to share some treats with colleagues and students on Main Campus.
Performed and recorded live, the sixth season of Drop the Mic featured guest judges Danny Simmons, producer of "Def Poetry Jam;" Yolanda Wisher, former Philadelphia Poet Laureate; Dr. Joan Bush, dean of Educational Support Services; Dr. Chae Sweet, dean of Liberal Studies; and Dr. Donald Generals. Featured spoken word poetry performers included Denice Frohman, Marquis Wright-Lee and Ursula Rucker.
This fall the College ushered in the new academic year with a packed events schedule. While some events spread awareness on issues like climate change and human trafficking, others, like our club fair and leadership exposition, celebrated our students and the work that they do to make our campus truly great.
Community College of Philadelphia was an official location partner for B.PHL, a new, city-wide innovation festival that took place in Philadelphia October 15-17. The Spring Garden Records’ pop-up reception, Philly Sounds on Greenhouse Grounds, in Grady’s Garden was one of five College-led events. Guests were welcome to relax in a hammock or share a bench with friends as they enjoyed cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and live performances by Hayley Cass, the Fairmount String Quartet, Amari and Mike Waters.
The College participated in Latinx Heritage Month this year with a series of eight events from September 25 - October 17. Events included: an installation relating to the theme "The Afro-Latinx: The Hues of the African Diaspora", "Diversity Dialogue: Puerto Rico Yesterday, Today and the Future","Latinx Comfort Foods: A Cooking Demonstration and Tasting", "Lasers in the Jungle: Recent High-tech Discoveries about the Ancient Maya of Central America", and "Discussion with Dr.
The College hosted a Changemakers panel discussion to launch the latest edition of Pathways magazine on Thursday, Sept.
The College participated in National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, Sept. 24 for a voting rights discussion and pep rally to prepare you for the next election. Barbara R.
On Sept. 17, 2019, Community College of Philadelphia welcomed our new mascot Roary to the Lions community. Welcome, Roary, to the Lions pride. Faculty, staff, students and alumni enjoyed entertainment, food and giveaways. Marc Farzetta, host of "Farzetta & Tra In The Morning” on 97.5, emceed the event. Franklin, the Sixers mascot and Villanova University's Will D. Cat, were there to welcome Roary to the mascot team. After Roary's debut, the party continued with the annual Black and Gold Bash. #CCPpride! We are the #CCPLions!
