Philadelphia LEADS - Student Leadership Society. L.I.F.E Student Leadership Certificate Series - Experiential Learning.

Philadelphia L.E.A.D.S - The Division of Student Development is rolling out a new Leadership Program. L.I.F.E. Leadership Program. The Student Experience should ultimately translate into bringing all theories to LIFE. The college process is filled with academic rigor to lead, innovation to stay ahead and on the cutting edge, and flourishing experiences to spark and awaken the yearning spirit within and bring out what is within - to educate.  The LIFE Leadership program is delivered through experiential learning experiences throughout the academic year.
L - Lead - Discover various leadership styles
I – Innovate – Creative faculty partnerships and programming
F – Flourish - growing and developing students in outdoor experiential leadership activities, which ultimately provide a healthy and organic environment in which the student grows and tests their leadership skills
E-Educate – Working from the etymology of the word educate – educere - ‘lead out’. Giving the opportunity for students to nurture and grow their natural talents and abilities
We use CliftonStrengths? Why are CliftonStrengths important? What is CliftonStrengths?

Using CliftonStrengths allows teams to move beyond an understanding of common "types" of people on a team. It allows for more specific insight into the natural talent of the individuals on the team and the collective strengths of the team

Meet the candidates for the '24-'25 Student Government Association. Tuesday, 4/2 and Wednesday, 4/3/24 - Online SGA Elections via Pride Portal

Greeting Lions!  Let your vote count!
PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THE CANDIDATE PLATFORM STATEMENTS.
NOTE:  On-line elections will be held in the Pride Portal.  The link will go live on 4/2/24 at 12:01 am and will close at 11:59 pm on 4/3/24.
MEET THE CANDIDATES:
MEET FRANCIS SCALES - Candidate for SGA President
My name is Frank Scales. I am a biology major interested in the environment’s relation to health and public policy. What separates humans from the rest of the animal kingdom is our ability to communicate with each other and organize ourselves. The Student Government Association is crucial to not just teach students important skills but also to provide a mechanism for student’s concerns to be heard and actions to be taken.
Speaking to a close friend, I advised him to go to Community College. He told me that college is “impossible” because, with his dad out of work, he must put food on the table for his family of 5. With 22.7 percent of households in Philadelphia at or below the poverty line, this is the reality for many.
It has been shown again, and again that the most effective way to escape the black hole which is poverty is education. A choice between being able to feed one’s family or getting educated conflicts with the American values we all find so precious. This choice should not exist in a developed, prosperous nation and it does not have to. I have a plan to eliminate it.
As president of the Student Government Association, I will harness the power of Philadelphia’s vibrant restaurant industry, and Lancaster’s rich farms. Thanks to many caring individuals progress has already been made in providing students with food options but by working with farms, small restaurants, and larger food importers to organize giveaways and farmer’s markets we will build an infrastructure that will be known as the Lancaster pipeline. The Lancaster pipeline will eliminate the choice between providing food for one’s family and seeking an education.
MEET ANGEL HARPER - Candidate for SGA 1st Vice-President
I am interested in applying for the 1st Vice President position. I'm eager to take on the work because it presents an intriguing opportunity and challenge. Although I can be very shy at first, once I open up I have a very bubbly friendly personality. I possess leadership qualities and strong communication and I do very well under pressure. That makes me confident that my dedication will make a significant impact.
MEET ANGIE OROZCO- RASIQUE - Candidate for SGA 1st Vice-President
Hi, my name is Angie Orozco-Rasique. I am a first-generation college student studyingGeneral Business. As a trailblazer, I value the rich tapestry of languages and cultures that have inspired and empowered me. My journey first began in the Spring Garden neighborhood, and I am happy it continues unfolding there. I went to Masterman, where I developed a deep appreciation for education. Later, I became a part of the diverse mosaic of Central High School. Throughout my education, I was actively involved in various clubs, from personal interests like Choir to cultural ones like reviving Central’s legendary Salsa Club and joining Hispanos y Latinos Unidos.
Transitioning to the Community College of Philadelphia (CCP) presented me with aneven more diverse community to learn from and a new realm of possibilities to explore. I quickly became involved in initiatives and opportunities close to my heart. I joined the Photography Club, where my hobby could flourish, helped revitalize the Latin American Student Organization to honor students’ diverse cultural heritage, and became a peer educator at the Women’s Outreach and Advocacy Center to combat campus violence through educational initiatives and preventative measures. When I realized more could be done at CCP to promote gender equality, I initiated the Period Poverty Project to ensure free period products for all CCP students—and it has flourished thanks to the donations and support of students.
As First Vice President, that process of collaboration and engagement is something I would upscale. I am committed to creating an inclusive and equitable environment at CCP. I will prioritize listening to students and centering any concerns or suggestions to achieve this. My agenda will focus on advocating for free personal hygiene products, promoting campus safety, and securing funding for the organizations that keep CCP lively. I am unwavering in my commitment to advocating for everyone historically left underserved and vulnerable—frominternational students to women to the LGBTQ+ community. I aim to foster a campus culture where everyone feels valued and supported in their educational journey.

MEET JULES LEES - Candidate for SGA NORTHEAST REGIONAL CENTER SENATOR
Hello!
My name is Jules Lees, and I am running for Senator at the Northeast Regional Center.
Personally, I would like to be a part of SGA because I am confident in my ability to make valuable contributions on behalf of my fellow students at CCP. If I am given the opportunity to become a part of SGA, I will carefully consider what the student population actually wants, when deciding what kinds of clubs and special events are orchestrated by the college, I will prioritize decisions that benefit the general student body. One way to possibly accomplish better student representation could be more frequent surveying or the creation of some type of drop box system where people can list their ideas and genuine feedback. As Senator, I will aspire to represent the interests of CCP’s student body as best as I can.

NOTE: THERE IS A WRITE-IN OPTION FOR ALL POSITIONS.
What is a Wrtie-in Candidate?  A write-in candidate is a candidate whose name does not appear on the ballot but seeks election by asking voters to cast a vote for the candidate by physically writing in the person's name on the ballot. It is possible to win an election by winning a sufficient number of such write-in votes, which count equally as if the person were formally listed on the ballot.  Writing in a name that is not already on the election ballot is considered a practice of the United States.
