Adopt-A-School Program

Adopt-A-School Overview

The Institute for Community Engagement and Civic Leadership (the Institute) at Community College of Philadelphia partners with the School District of Philadelphia to support local schools and recruit college students as Classroom Support Tutors. Tutors provide essential support in the classroom to help K-8 students achieve success at their grade level in English, math, and science. Adopt-A-School (AAS) also supports school partners through donation drives, early college exposure events, parent engagement activities, and serves as a community-based learning site for College students, faculty, and staff.

Program Goals

The Adopt-A-School Program has three primary goals:

  • Improve literacy skills
  • Provide early college exposure
  • Support parent engagement

The Institute is equipped to support you each step of the way as you consider community-based learning as a model for enchanced learning and long-term impact.

K-8 Schools

If you are a K-8 school who is looking for academic support for your students, we invite you to reach out to the School District of Philadelphia's Office of Strategic Partnerships (OSP) at .

The Institute works closely with the OSP to review their school needs-assessment to identify schools in need of additional support. While we work with a set of specific partner schools and cannot always guarantee capacity to onboard new partners, the OSP may be able to connect you with additional resources and support programs in the city.
