Application Process
The Adopt-A-School Program connects Community College of Philadelphia students with meaningful opportunities to support local schools while gaining hands-on experience. If you're interested in joining the program, follow the steps below to complete your application and begin your journey as Classroom Support Tutor. We welcome students from any major and academic discipline to apply, including international students.
Please note: Since Federal Work Study is a form of financial aid, international students are not eligible. However, international students are very welcome to participate in Adopt-A-School on a volunteer basis.

Program Eligibility Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled at Community College of Philadelphia (and remain such) while serving as a tutor
- Minimum 2.0 GPA required and must be in good academic standing
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must be a resident of Pennsylvania
- Must have availability during the school day (Monday – Friday between 9am – 3pm) and be able to work in-person
- Must complete all required background clearances, paperwork, and training to work with children
- If awarded Federal Work Study, must be authorized to work in the United States (international students are welcome to participate in the program as volunteers, however are not eligible to receive Federal Work Study)
Step-by-Step Process
- Submit an Adopt-A-School Program application
- Confirm your Federal Work Study (FWS) eligibility with the Financial Aid Office, and/or proceed as an upaid volunteer
- Schedule an onboarding appointment
- Complete all required background checks, paperwork, and training
- Attend mandatory tutor training
- Get started at your K-8 school!
