Eligibility Routes for MLT Technician, MLT (ASCP)

To be eligible for this examination category, an applicant must satisfy the following requirements:

Associate degree or at least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a college/university accredited by a recognized regional or national accreditation agency

AND

successful completion of a NAACLS or ABHES accredited MLT program within the last five years.

The education received from a NAACLS or ABHES accredited MLT program is acceptable for a period of five (5) years from the date of completion of that program. After five years, the applicant’s eligibility will be based on clinical laboratory experience as stated in the current examination eligibility requirements.

Information About the Exam

The BOC uses Computer Adaptive Testing (CAT) because it measures knowledge and skills more accurately and quickly than standard fixed-form tests. In CAT, a more difficult question follows a correct answer and a less difficult question follows an incorrect answer to identify the test taker’s ability level in each area.
