Student Programming Board

The Student Programming Board (SPB) works to create programs and events for the College student body.

Mission

To provide quality social, educational and entertainment-based programs that fosters experiences to nurture the intellectual and moral development of students at the Community College of Philadelphia.

The Student Programming Board will strive to build school spirit, to provide opportunities for leadership and seek to create a more inclusive campus life experience for students.

Goals

  • To facilitate an experience that is productive and beneficial for the entire campus community
  • To guide students development through the many stages of moral and intellectual change
  • To provide a variety of programming that realizes and recognizes the whole person
  • Respond more accurately to the specific needs and interests of the student body

Responsibilities

Focused on meeting students’ needs in a holistic manner, the SPB is made up of students who create over 50 events a year in four main areas:

  • Arts and Entertainment - Events focus on and enhance students’ appreciation of the arts and provide various entertainment programs.
  • Traditions and Spirit - Events developed by the SPB and the Athletic Department establish new and continue traditional programs that focus on and enhance students’ physical, emotional and social well-being and promote school spirit. These include Welcome Week events, Spring Fling, annual Spirit Week with the crowning of a King and Queen, and various other events such as those supporting and promoting our athletic teams.
  • Health and Wellness - Events focus on and enhance students’ understanding of their personal health.
  • Cultural and Heritage - Events focus on and enhance students’ understanding of various cultural and heritage celebrations.

Time Commitment

SPB members are required to complete 10 office hours per week, inclusive of any events planned for that week.

Student Positions

Educational Development

Work with SPB, Academic and Student Affairs units to develop programs that focus on and enhance students' intellectual, occupational and health and wellness needs.

Special Events

Work with the SPB, Academic and Student Affairs units to develop programs that engage students in the College and the community. This position will plan and implement social events that will give the student body the opportunity to learn and interact with other students, faculty, staff and community members.

Graphic Artist/Marketing/Advertising

Works to develop visually stimulating representations of events, programs and services of SPB. Oversee all aspects of marketing and promoting the Programming Board events and programs. This position will encourage creative brainstorming to fuel extensive marketing and advertising strategies.

Marketing/ Special Events Support and Educational Support

Work with SPB Graphics Artist/Marketing/Advertising, Education Development and Special Events to promote and support programs throughout the semester. They are also responsible to produce small programs that support the SPB mission.

Compensation

Special Events, Graphic Artist/ Marketing/Advertising, Educational Development

These are paid $1200 during both the fall and spring semesters for a total of $2,400. The fall and spring payments will each be divided into three equal payments of $400.

Marketing/ Special Events Support and Educational Support

This position is paid $750 during both the fall and spring semesters for a total of $1,500. The fall and spring payments will each be divided into three equal payments of $250.

These positions may be paid $250 for summer planning at the discretion of the Director of Student Life.
