Black Studies

Offering Afrocentric courses, critical race theory framework, insight into resistance movements and a focus on social justice, this program provides a strong foundation for transfer and future employment within local and global black communities. A capstone course may include a service-learning project or a study abroad option to an African location. Through studying texts and completing your own research, you will enhance your critical thinking, leadership and communication skills, all in-demand skills for any career area.

Liberal Arts

Explore a wide range of subjects and courses while developing critical thinking and communication skills. The Liberal Arts program offers a flexible, balanced academic course of study that fully prepares you for transfer to a four-year college. This program allows you to choose within several required course categories and focus your studies through general education courses. You can explore a personal interest or meet requirements of a transfer institution’s major. Liberal Arts is also ideal for students currently undecided about career goals who wish to sample different areas of study and select those which fit them best.   

Liberal Arts - Honors

The Honors experience puts you in a unique learning community of motivated students and faculty. The program is designed to help you earn a bachelor's degree, and beyond. In it, you will develop advanced skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking within the context of intellectual discussions. Our Honors students have gone on to successfully pursue a wide range of educational options at some of the nation’s top colleges and universities. Honors is a powerful way to strengthen your academic abilities and better position yourself for professional success. Liberal Arts - Social/Behavioral Science

Our Liberal Arts - Social/Behavioral Science program will teach you how to study human behavior and human societies. You will learn how cultures have developed, discover how economic and political systems operate, and investigate how people learn and change over time. You will also study sexuality and the experiences of minority and majority groups in societies and cultures around the world. As you progress through the program, you will be able to individualize your studies with many social science electives, such as Anthropology, Environmental Conservation, Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology, Women's studies, and Sociology. The Liberal Arts - Social/Behavioral Sciences program offers a flexible, balanced academic course of study that fully prepares you for transfer to a four-year college.

Certificate

Religious Studies

Our Religious Studies certificate helps you explore the practices and beliefs of major world religions and world doctrines. Students who wish to pursue a career with a religious organization or non-profit, or are interested in in going into the seminary, will gain a solid educational base in this program. You will learn about critical issues in contemporary life, including the effects of globalization and the relationship between church and state. At the same time, you will discover how religion influences ethnic and race relations, politics and cultural developments around the world. As you navigate the Religious Studies program preparing for transfer to a four-year college, you will acquire excellent critical thinking, writing, discussion and research skills, plus a solid understanding of diverse cultures and traditions.
