Teaching Philosophy

Dr. Lockridge believes that a good education is more than just the acquisition of specific information or skills or the improvement of one's job prospects. Education should assist a person to develop their ability to think creatively and critically, thus improving the quality of their everyday living experiences. Encouraging students to make their own intellectual discoveries, he sees his role in the classroom as part instructor, part scholar, and part mentor. He hopes to motivate students to establish independent and sustained lines of intellectual inquiry knowing that as burgeoning intellectuals, they bring their individual experiences and unique talents to the classroom. His ultimate goal is to enhance the skills they already possess in order that they may thoughtfully speak their own goals into being.
