Seminar Description
This seminar encourages faculty across disciplines to implement intercultural communication practices in course assignments, in order to build bridges within the community here at CCP and in the city at large. Intercultural communication practices emphasize experiential learning through intercultural interaction. This project explores how intercultural communication strategies can be applied to bolster undergraduate research and increase global awareness. Applying intercultural communication methods in coursework can provide students with real-world applications of theoretical concepts, increasing engagement and the perceived relevance of their studies, and helps students develop essential skills such as empathy, adaptability, and competence. By promoting intercultural experiences, the seminar also seeks to raise awareness of cultural biases in general, and potentially in existing coursework. In this seminar faculty will learn about intercultural communication strategies, and workshop with other faculty on how to implement these into existing assignments. Participants in this seminar will also become part of a network of faculty interested in or already using intercultural communication approaches in coursework, and can participate in generating material for a Canvas space dedicated to sharing assignments, readings and strategies.
