Seminar Description
How can a popular science fiction movie about primates taking over the world help students better understand virology? What’s the connection between tending a rose garden and teaching the fundamentals of leading a team? How can one’s interest in superheroes enhance student’s appreciation of the criminal justice system? Such are the connections explored in this highly interactive workshop designed to foster collaborative cross-disciplinary brainstorming in order to develop new ways of presenting/teaching hard-to-grasp concepts. As our student population becomes more and more diverse, it becomes essential that faculty and staff are able to communicate and relate to students in ways that support both their academic and professional success. The facilitator will share the process of “intentional bracketing” and with the help of audience participation, demonstrate the power of drawing from non-discipline-based sources to understand and present subjects in new and engaging ways.
All are welcome and encouraged to attend this workshop in order to harness the power of diverse ideas, experiences, and interest!
