Learning Goals
Participants will:

  • Learn more about F1 international students and become aware of a new mentoring program launching in Fall 2024 for these students.
  • Understand the need that F1 students have for faculty/staff mentorship and how mentoring increases retention and persistence.
  • See the results of a pilot mentoring program that ran in Spring 2024 and learn how they can become a mentor to an F1 student for the 2024-2025 school year if interested.

Seminar Description
Join this seminar to learn more about one of our special subgroups of students – F1 international students. Each semester, hundreds of F1 students are enrolled at CCP. These students offer a unique perspective, bringing their own culture and expertise to our classrooms and hallways. F1 students have worked hard to obtain a visa to come to the United States to study, but can be negatively impacted by culture shock, language barriers, loneliness or isolation. Students who have a dedicated faculty/staff mentor are more likely to stay engaged with our College campus, persist towards their academic goals and have a positive overseas study experience. If you’d like to learn more about F1 student mentoring and the program that will be running in the 2024-2025 school year, please attend!
