Learning Goals
Participants will:

  • Grounding in scholarship & pedagogy/theories.       
  • Learning and centering Community Based knowledge & partnerships.   
  • Learning effective ways to engage social justice, activism, & leadership within communities. 
  • Onboarding & developing modules/practices that align with BLAS ethos and that will inform future teaching BLAS courses. 
  • Engaging with the National Council of Black Studies (NCBS) the professional governing organization of Black Studies and its role in the formalization of the African world experience.  

Seminar Description

The PD session will be the first in a year-long series of speakers & lectures, teach-ins, and roundtables led by current & potential Black Studies faculty, community organizers/CBOs, activists, and artists that aims to concretize the pedagogy, nomenclature and primary theories and methodologies of disciplinary Black Studies. The Fall 20024 PD specifically will introduce participants to a brief history of Black Studies in the university. Additionally, the seminar will introduce participants with current seminal text that prioritizes theories, paradigms and methods of teaching Black Studies.
