Seminar Description

Community College of Philadelphia is in the process of approving a four-year grant from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance to develop an undergraduate certificate program in restorative justice and expand this programming to other colleges in partnership with The National Center on Restorative Justice. The certificate curriculum will focus on the principles and philosophy of restorative justice and its application in the criminal legal system as well as in disrupting the school-to-prison pipeline. The program will provide relevant skills for students pursuing careers in criminal justice, education, behavioral health/human services, and psychology as well as any field in which conflict resolution and interpersonal communication are crucial skills.

In this session, we'll also discuss the history and contemporary practice of restorative justice in global Indigenous communities as well as institutional applications of restorative justice. You'll even have the opportunity to consider ways you can–and do–practice restorative justice at CCP, in Philadelphia, and in your personal relationships.
