Seminar Description
Intersectionality is a framework for understanding how varying identities result in combinations of discrimination and privilege; this becomes even more heightened when addiction is overlaid. We will first have an open dialogue to debunk some of the stereotypical beliefs/myths about the types of people who become addicted. Next, there will be some focused content about how addiction is similar and how it manifests differently across ethnicities, cultures, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic and ability status. Lastly, we will offer practical, trauma-informed approaches to reduce stigma for those we encounter on our college campus, in our communities and our own lives
