Gone Starfishin’!

Presenters: Madeline Marcotte Rolston, Lynne Sutherland
Audience: Faculty, Staff

Learning Goals

Participants will:

  • Analyze and assess one’s own experience using Starfish by learning from others on campus who have a different role in the academic early alert process
  • Create best practices based on shared experiences, reflection, and common purpose

Seminar Description

Faculty often wonder, "What happened when I raised that flag or made that referral in Starfish? How has the issue ‘been addressed?" They probably imagine an automated response, electrons moving effortlessly somewhere, everywhere, maybe nowhere. Meanwhile, there are real colleagues on the other side of flags and referrals. Join this jigsaw discussion between classroom faculty and support service personnel to connect (or reconnect) with colleagues to improve student success. Hear what the Starfish experience is like from other sides, including the students. We hope to come out of this session with ideas for best practices and plans for future, ongoing discussions of how to meaningfully surround our students with the support they deserve.
