Presented by: Lynne Sutherland, Danyelle Watson-Young
Audience: Faculty
Virtual: Zoom | Registration required

Learning Goals

Participants will:

  • Create awareness of features other than the progress survey that teaching faculty can use to support their students.
  • Learn how to send messages/notes to students.
  • Learn how to make referrals for students to campus offices.
  • Learn how to clear the flags they have raised after a student discusses the flag with them.
  • Learn how to access and understand the information available in Starfish student records.

Seminar Description

This session is best suited for teaching faculty who have experience completing progress surveys; however, teaching faculty with little or no experience with Starfish are also welcome. Many teaching faculty members’ experience of using Starfish is completing progress surveys at the 20% and/or 50% part of term. Attend this session to learn about other features you can use in Starfish to support your students. Learn basic navigation in Starfish, how to send messages to students, make referrals to campus offices, clear your own flags if a student connects with you after a raised flag, how to raise flags and kudos manually at any time during the term, and how to access and understand a student’s Starfish record. Best practices for using Starfish will be discussed. The session will be a "hands-on" session in a computer lab.
