Creating Liquid Syllabi

Presenters: Kathleen Murphey
Audience: Faculty
In-Person: Bonnell, B2-30

Learning Goals
Participants will:

  • Start to create a Liquid Syllabus for their courses using Google Sites and be given references to resources on the advantages of Liquid Syllabi.

Seminar Description
Having a Liquid Syllabus has been called "humanizing," "anti-racist," and "accessible." What is a Liquid Syllabus and how do instructors create one or more? This workshop will walk instructors through how to make a Liquid Syllabus. To use the timeframe to its optimal potential, participants should read up on Liquid Syllabi, have a Google Sites account, and have a range of images on a flash drive that can added to the Liquid Syllabus (recommendations and resources will be provided prior to the workshop through a Canvas Group). Images may include things about office/student hours (a phone image, an e-mail image, an image of an instructor talking one-on-one with a student, etc.) an image of the instructor, images of course texts, among others. A Liquid Syllabus will have a number of pages (Home page, Office/Student Hours page, Syllabus page, Calendar page, Major Assignments page, Resources page, etc.) --so instructors should think about what kinds of images they would put on the various pages.
