The work of the CATF will occur primarily from Spring 2023 through Spring 2025 and will encompass the College’s three assessment areas: academic assessment, general education assessment, and administrative assessment. The CATF is charged with evaluating current and potential assessment tools; updating the College assessment framework to incorporate universal baseline assessment standards; and supporting initiatives and practices that promote continuous improvement. The CATF will make recommendations in these three areas to the Academic and Student Success Council, the Intuitional Effectiveness Committee, and to the larger College community.

- Discuss ways that the CATF may address the assessment challenges facing the College
Seminar Description
Assessment at the College has come a long way since we started creating course and program learning outcomes in 2009. Academic departments and programs have established assessment cycles, reflected on their data, and implemented innovative and collaborative strategies in the pursuit of continuous improvement. We have Divisional Curriculum Assessment Facilitators (DCAF) who work with faculty to conduct program and course learning outcome assessment on a continuing basis and who address challenges associated with assessment tools and software. We’ve made hundreds of substantive and positive changes to course and program learning outcomes. We’ve revised general education and begun assessing our updated general education skills at scale. We’ve created an Institutional Effectiveness Committee to focus on data-informed continuous improvement. We’ve established an assessment cycle for Administrative, Education, and Support units (AES). With all of this progress, some challenges remain, and new ones have sprouted. There is the classic “silo” issue, making it difficult for diverse programs, departments, divisions, and units at the College to coalesce regarding assessment as we all work toward student success. There is the drain on time, energy, and resources that comes with increasing responsibilities, the ongoing global pandemic, and the pressure of our accreditation process. We’ve experienced setbacks with assessment technology and with creating a cohesive, College-wide assessment framework. In this session, we’ll talk about these challenges and discuss ways that the College Assessment Task Force can help, including deeper integration of assessment and curriculum development, support at all levels, documentation, consistency, follow-up, instructional design, and continuous improvement.

Learning Goals
Participants will:
- Meet faculty where they are
- Complete assessment collaboratively
Seminar Description
Faculty understand the significance of assessment and strive to complete assessment tasks; however, given a full teaching load, they do not have the time to dive deep into all aspects of assessment. In Liberal Studies division, the DCAF team, for the past three years, have worked collaboratively with the faculty to create a system for meaningful assessment with one main underlying principle: meet the faculty where they are and support them to accomplish meaningful assessment of their student learning. Keeping this in mind, the Liberal Studies DCAF team facilitated discussions around data driven assessment for both program and course learning outcomes; these included creating assessment reflection worksheets, resource videos, assessment circle meetings, and one-on-one meetings as well as group meetings. The DCAF team addressed the needs of faculty at varying levels and supported all program coordinators to complete program and course assessment. Faculty in the division feel comfortable in reaching out to the DCAF team to seek clarifications in interpreting data, completing an assessment task, or using the software to collect data. More importantly, faculty now know that assessment is a collaborative venture and their DCAF team is always available to support them. Presenters will share their strategies and steps they undertook to reach faculty with kindness to create a supportive and collaborative assessment culture.
