Presenters: Dr. Derrick A. Perkins, Daniel Lipschutz, Damon McWhite, Josh Sarantitis
Audience: Faculty, Staff, Administrators
In-person: The Rotunda

Learning Goals
Participants will:

  • Foster cross-campus collaboration and community-building through the co-creation of public art.
  • Engage in a shared creative experience that builds relationships across roles and departments, strengthening a sense of campus unity and collective community identity.
  • Explore the role of public art in promoting social justice, representation, and cultural expression. Participants will reflect on how murals can serve as visual narratives that uplift underrepresented voices and histories, particularly in urban and academic settings.
  • Cultivate a personal sense of ownership and pride in the local community. Participants will reflect on their role in shaping and beautifying public spaces, foster a sense of belonging, and recognize the value of civic participation in community-based arts.

Seminar Description
In partnership with Mural Arts Color Me Back and Restorative Justice programs, the SICE Division’s I Am More Program invites members of the College community to participate in this interactive professional development session centered on reflection, collaboration, and community-building through public art. Participants will contribute to the Walden’s Street’s “Now I See Happiness” mural project by helping paint individual panels that will later be installed in the community. This hands-on experience offers a unique opportunity to connect across departments and roles while engaging in a creative process that celebrates collective vision, community engagement, and civic pride. No artistic experience is necessary, just a willingness to collaborate and create.
