Program Description
Studies affirm that campuses who embrace diversity and inclusion enhances student’s sense of community and increase retention rates among faculty and students of color, while its lack, creates discourse (Williams, 2019; Patton, 2015; Kelly, Gayles & Williams, 2017). The demographic population of colleges and universities is rapidly becoming more diverse and it is imperative that the academy is prepared to adapt (Georges & Illinois University’s Office of Community College Leadership, 2019).
Meaningful interactions between students and faculty are essential to student success (Deli-Amen, 2011). This panel discussion will offer insight into culturally sensitive faculty-student and facultyclassroom interaction. Our hope is that participants obtain tools to become courageous pedagogues.
