Seminar Description

Are you a visual learner who designs courses or programs in any modality? If yes, this face-to-face, totally interactive learning session is for you! Best practices show that creating a welcoming environment that is respectful and inclusive, creating a sense of community, and offering multiple approaches to content delivery and assessment not only enhances student success but ensures DEI is included in your courses and programs. Learning Environment Modeling (LEM) is a visual way to (re)design courses and programs to include these best practices related to DEI by creating a graphical outline of your learning environment. With this model, you take a holistic approach to course and program design to ensure that there is plenty of interaction, scaffolding, assessments, and feedback in a variety of formats to create a balanced course. By learning to "draw" your course using the LEM language, you are better able to visually see where the strengths and challenges are in your course design to meet the needs of ALL learners. Besides, “LEMming” is great fun! You bring a syllabus and I’ll bring the markers as we will be drawing your learning environment.
