Community College of Philadelphia will be closed Friday, Feb. 14, in honor of the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory parade and in light of street closures. All classes are canceled. This cancelation does not apply to students who may be scheduled for clinical rotations, off-site practicum/observation sites or internships. Go Birds—Super Bowl LIX Champions!

Participants will:

  • Learn about writing conventions of different languages
  • Learn about the concepts of opaque and transparent languages
  • Be introduced to the confusion of English spelling and pronunciation
  • Develop a new sense of empathy for those around them who English Language

Seminar Description

This session will introduce participants to the world of languages in terms of reading and writing conventions; language transparency; and the unique linguistic features that make English such a fascinating study. This session will expand participants’ understanding of languages in general, and English more specifically, while also raising awareness of the challenges our ESL students or colleagues may be facing.
