Beyond Performative Allyship at CCP
Presenters: Mary Hoeffel and Junior Brainard
Across the college, with its growing focus on diversity, equity and inclusion and the increasing spotlight on anti-racist efforts, it's common to hear white faculty, staff and administrators express a desire to become better allies to our Black colleagues. But what does that mean? What does it look like? Where do we start? Come talk about how to push beyond performative allyship, de-center ourselves, and show up for Black colleagues in ways that are useful to them and that lead to meaningful outcomes. We'll talk about building our capacities for difficult conversations and consistent follow-through, and what, practically-speaking, this looks like on the ground and at CCP. You can expect specific scenarios and role-playing as we work through how to make authentic allyship an integral part of our everyday lives.
