About Our Guest Speakers
Rep. Regina Young is a community organizer, former educator, social service worker, and a certified HIV and grief counselor. Before running for office, she was a community schools coordinator in the Philadelphia Mayor’s Office of Education. She founded and served as executive director of Empowered Community Development Corporation, an organization that helps establish community programs identified as needed by community members.
Councilmember Anthony Phillips is dedicated to improving Philadelphia’s quality of life. He is chair of the Children and Youth, and Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs committees, and serves on several committees, including Education, Intergenerational Affairs and Aging, and Neighborhood Services. Kenneth McDuffie (Chef Kenny) is a proud North Philadelphia native who began his culinary journey in his great-grandmother’s kitchen. He launched his first catering business in 2009, later rebranding it as Young & Hungry Catering. He quickly built a clientele that includes state Sen. Vincent Hughes and Sheryl Lee Ralph, Patti LaBelle, Juelz Santana and Jenifer Lewis. As a contestant on Season 19 of FOX’s “Hell’s Kitchen,” he made history as the first openly gay Black chef to compete on the show. He is a passionate advocate for young chefs—particularly LGBTQ+ creatives and chefs of color.
