What Does a Respiratory Therapist Do?
Patients of all ages with pulmonary issues or diseases may need temporary treatment or ongoing care, and therapists perform several duties:

• Assess patients for lung and breathing disorders and recommend treatment
• Manage ventilator and artificial airway devices
• Use and administer oxygen and other medical gases
• Respond to Code Blue and other urgent situations

Average salary: $76,915

Where Does a Respiratory Therapist Work?

You may work in hospitals, intensive care units, emergency rooms, newborn and pediatric units, operating rooms, air transport and ambulance programs, doctor’s offices, skilled nursing facilities, patients’ homes, sleep laboratories, and with asthma education and smoking cessation programs.

Program Benefits
This 22-month program provides you with knowledge and skills for entry to this in-demand field:

• Hands-on experience and networking at clinical sites
• Preparation for the entry-level examination; specialty exams in pulmonary function technology and neonatal/pediatric respiratory care; and licensure required to practice in Pennsylvania
• Transfer agreement with the University of Cincinnati and their online Respiratory Therapy bachelor’s degree program
• Student membership in the American Association for Respiratory Care
