Diversity Certificate Program: We Wear The Mask Part 2: Anxiety

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), anxiety is the most common mental health condition in the United States, impacting approximately forty million adults (2015). People of Color are more likely to wait until symptoms become severe before seeking help and are more inclined to seek cultural solutions rather than psychiatric treatment. Unfortunately, symptoms are often misinterpreted and less likely to be properly diagnosed due to cultural differences in symptom presentation. In this session, you will learn about anxiety, multigenerational trauma, race-related post-traumatic stress disorder, signs (including classroom behaviors), symptoms, risk factors, barriers to treatment, cultural differences, and resources.
