Learning Goals

Seminar attendees will learn the basics of how to succeed as a new adjunct at CCP.

Program Description

A panel of “CCP experts” will each make a brief (3-5 min.) presentation about how to succeed as a new adjunct at CCP, and after the presentations there will be an open Q&A session. This open format will allow the panelists to tailor the information they present to the needs and prior knowledge of the attendees.

Some possible topics:

  • • How do adjuncts contribute to the mission of the College? What resources do you think are most crucial to their ability to make that contribution? (E.g. Libraries, COD, Learning Labs, Academic Advising, Student Success Initiatives, CME, Women’s Center)
  • • What are the most important technological resources that adjuncts can use to help students succeed and to improve their teaching? (E.g. Canvas, Starfish)
  • • What benefits and resources does the College provide adjuncts, especially ones they often don’t know about? (E.g. health insurance and travel funding)
  • • What are some things that many adjuncts (especially new ones) don’t know about, or that they commonly misunderstand?
  • • Since some of the participants will be new to adjunct teaching, while others will be veteran adjuncts who are new to CCP, participants are invited to talk about some things that are specific to CCP and some that aren’t.
  • • What do you wish you had known when you began teaching at CCP?
  • • What should new adjuncts know at the beginning of the semester to get off to a good start and to set themselves up for a successful beginning, middle, and end of the semester?
  • • What should new adjuncts who hope to continue teaching at CCP in the future know about?
