Learning Goals

Gain a greater understanding of the implications of racial trauma and its impact on the student experience, obtain valuable resources to enhance their classroom experience through cultural humility, and receive best practices for engaging students of color and reducing implicit biases in the classroom

Program Description

Racialized trauma experienced by students of color has deleterious implications to the learning process. Stemming from institutional racism and microaggressions, students are forced to navigate the landmines of racial oppression, slights, and invalidations as they seek to build a better life through education. Professors often are unaware of their biases and the way their statements or mannerisms impact students of color. Studies overwhelmingly argue the value of cultural humility and racial sensitivity trainings as a --- for creating culturally enriched classroom experiences and contributing to increased retention and graduation rates for students of color.
