Student Parents: Best Practices in Supporting Our Pregnant and Parenting Students

Learning Goals:

  1. To gain a clearer understanding of the specific challenges faced by pregnant and parenting students and how those challenges can affect school performance.
  2. To learn about the most effective ways of supporting our pregnant and parenting students in the classroom and in our offices.
  3. To learn about the specific resources available - especially on campus resources - to these students.

Program Description:

This panel presentation of three experts including, Dr. Claudia Curry of the Women's Outreach and Advocacy Center, Dr. Lisa Johnson, Associate Professor of Nursing, and Dr. Nichole Kang, Director for Family Services at Health Promotion Council, will provide insights into the specific challenges and needs of pregnant and parenting students at the College. The panel will focus on the best strategies to engage and support these students during their time at the College. Additionally, we will present information about the multitude of resources available, especially those right here on campus.
