COVID-19 Campus Update for March 17, 2020

Good afternoon,

As public health concerns surrounding COVID-19 continue to grow, Community College of Philadelphia has made the careful decision to move coursework to online or other remote alternatives, beginning March 30 through the end of the spring semester, and to keep Main Campus and its Regional Centers closed through at least May 6, 2020.  All courses remain suspended through March 30, 2020.

Students should expect updates from their individual instructors by March 30 as to the manner in which the remainder of their coursework will be conducted. At this time, the commencement ceremony for spring 2020 is postponed. Please note that students who have satisfactorily completed their requirements will still be issued degrees and certificates. Further details about the future of the commencement ceremony will be shared as soon as they become available. Students in Workforce & Economic Innovation classes (WEI) will be contacted separately through that Division.

Credit teaching faculty should expect guidance from Dr. Sam Hirsch later this afternoon about moving coursework to remote instruction beginning March 30. Faculty in DACE will receive guidance from DeAndre Jones and faculty in Workforce and Economic Innovation will receive guidance from Carol de Fries. Unless otherwise notified, staff will be expected to conduct their work remotely, to the extent that is possible, through May 6, 2020. Individual supervisors will reach out to their staff regarding expectations.

For staff who have a need to enter Main Campus, building access will be available via the 16th Street entrance to Bonnell (with connection to Mint and West), and at 1500 Spring Garden. Public Safety (215-751-8111) will assist staff who must access CBI and Winnet. Surface lot and CBI parking will remain accessible to all College employees. Access and parking at all Regional Centers will remain the same.

Below are some reminders about student services that continue to be available during this closure.

Student Workers

Student workers will continue to be paid for the hours they would normally be working. This also applies to students who are paid through Work Study, thanks to Department of Education approval. Work Study students who work for off-campus agencies can continue working with approval from those agencies. If those students cannot work, the College will ensure they are paid for their usual hours through the close of the spring semester.

Student Services

The College is working on remote service options for various student support services including but not limited to counseling, advising, tutoring, and the Center on Disability's services and will provide more information on when those services will be available.

CCP Cares

Students who are in need of support should continue to make requests via CCP Cares, which will be monitored while the College is closed.

Online registration will continue, for courses scheduled to meet virtually over the summer and for fall 2020. During this time, students will also be able to make payments online at MyCCP.

This virus has already caused significant disruption to the lives of all Philadelphians, and we know these campus changes will require the continued flexibility and resilience of our students. We are grateful for the support and coordination of the entire campus community thus far. We anticipate continuing updates via email, text alert and at
