On June 7, 2018, Gateway to College recognized 25 graduates of the program. One of our graduates, Jachai May, also received his associate degree at the College's May 5 Commencement ceremony. Student speakers Jachai May and Sylvia Hsu shared supportive words with their peers, encouraging them to follow their dreams, while vocalist Morgan Glover sang a beautiful tribute to her classmates titled, "Rise." Jachai May, Sylvia Hsu and Trisha Herrera received citations from Congressman Dwight Evans and State Representative Emilio Vazquez for their academic accomplishments.
The Black and Gold Gala is a premier charity event recognizing outstanding service of individuals and organizations that demonstrate involvement in community growth in the areas of education, business, social services and health. This recognition is awarded to those who exemplify leadership and are active in community initiatives in Philadelphia. Members of the community joined the Community College of Philadelphia Foundation and Honorary Chair, Mayor James F. Kenney, on June 13 at Vie to celebrate the outstanding contributions of Independence Blue Cross; Ronald W. Davis, Director of Diversity and Community Affairs at Parx Casino; Luis E. Torrado, Founder and CEO of Torrado Construction; and RoseAnn B. Rosenthal, President, CEO of Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
On Friday, May 4, members of the College community boarded the Spirit of Philadelphia to celebrate our 2018 graduates and celebrate the closing of another year of student success. Decked out in all-white attire, guests enjoyed dinner, dancing and music.
The College recognized Adminisitrative Professionals Day on April 25 with an Administrative Professionals’ Tea, recognizing the work of the administrative staff across the College community. The 34th annual Classified/Confidential Employees luncheon was held on Wednesday, May 9. Years of service certificates were given to staff to recognize and thank them for their dedication to the College, including three staff employees who have been with the College for 45 years.
